Damage prevention for endoscopes from numerous manufacturers

Damage to endoscopes can be costly. Rely on professional damage prevention to avoid expensive repairs in the long term.

As the manufacturer of our Althea endoscopes, we know exactly where the weak points of these sensitive devices lie. We advise and train you across all manufacturers and tell you what you should pay attention to when using, caring for and storing your endoscopes.

On request, we can provide you with feedback on which measures are already being implemented correctly and what you can still pay attention to.

Advantages of damage prevention in endoscopy

From the gastroscope to the bronchoscope to the nasopharyngoscope and beyond - you benefit from the following advantages thanks to consistent damage prevention:

  • Cost savings: By recognising and rectifying problems at an early stage, you can avoid expensive repairs or replacements.
  • Extended service life of your endoscopes: Regular maintenance and preventive measures help to ensure that your endoscopes remain functional for longer.
  • Continuity in everyday practice and clinic work: Preventive measures reduce the risk of breakdowns.

Tips: Check endoscopes yourself

Whether in a hospital, clinic or specialist practice - you and your staff can do a lot to prevent damage to your endoscopes and recognise problems at an early stage. Read our tips here.

Please note, however, that these suggestions are no substitute for professional training. We will be happy to advise you so that no mistakes creep in during do-it-yourself damage prevention.

1Cleaning the endoscope

Probably the most important point in preventing damage to endoscopes is proper cleaning. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and only use suitable cleaning agents so as not to put too much strain on the sensitive devices.

2Correct storage

Store the endoscope in a dry, dust-free place. Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Ensure that the cables are not kinked or excessively stretched.
7

3Visual inspection

Inspect all parts of the endoscope for visible damage, from the connections and working channels to the angled rubber. Use a magnifying glass to check for signs of wear such as scratches or discolouration at the distal end. Check both the plastic cover and the lens.

4Manual Testing

Run your fingers along the insertion and supply hose to identify kinks or compressions that are not visible at first glance.
7

5Function test for endoscope

Test the functionality of the endoscope. Ensure that all buttons and controls respond properly and that the image is clear and sharp.

6Documentation

Keep a maintenance log in which all inspections, cleanings and functional tests are documented. This helps to track the history of the appliance and identify recurring problems.

Frequently asked questions

General questions on damage prevention for endoscopes

How much does a training course on damage prevention for endoscopes cost?

If we are at your premises to deliver, repair or collect an appliance, we will be happy to give you important practical tips on damage prevention free of charge.

However, you can also book regular training courses with us to re-sensitize existing staff and prepare new employees for the correct handling of endoscopes.

When is damage prevention training in endoscopy useful?

If the same defects occur repeatedly, specific training on how to use the device in question is recommended.

We recommend offering training courses in your clinic or practice once a year to sensitise your employees and prevent small but serious errors from creeping in during use. This can be combined with our maintenance service, for example.

How often do you recommend technical inspections and maintenance for endoscopes?

With professional maintenance, we can repair small defects directly on site and prevent serious damage. To ensure the smooth operation of your endoscope, we recommend an annual inspection.

What specific tests do you carry out during an inspection?

We check optics, hoses, cables, connecting elements and bonding and carry out a comprehensive function test. For example, we pay particular attention to the distal end and whether mechanical angles are still within the tolerance range.

What measures do you take during maintenance to extend the service life of the endoscopes?

Firstly, we assess the overall condition and the condition of all individual parts of the endoscope and adjust the technology. If something is not in order, we will carry out a repair at your premises or in our specialised workshop. In this case, we can provide you with a loan device.

Is the cost of damage prevention higher for used endoscopes?

We focus on sustainability and have specialised in used endoscopes. A refurbished device from our company is subject to the same damage prevention requirements as a new device. If there is a new series of your endoscope, we can offer an upgrade.
